Cleft Lip Surgery for Infants
1 in every 4,000 babies each year is born with a cleft lip. Resulting in a gap between the mouth, nose and lip, cleft lip is a birth defect that causes the separation of the facial elements around the nose and palate. If you have just found out either via ultrasound that your child has a cleft lip or have recently given birth to a baby who has a cleft lip, don’t worry a second longer. Through a surgical procedure, your child will be able to live a normal and healthy life. Read on to learn more about cleft lip surgery for infants.
What is a cleft lip?
In order to fully understand the cleft lip surgery process, it’s important to know exactly what a cleft lip is and what it does. A cleft lip is an opening between the nose and mouth that hasn’t formed correctly. During the first three months of pregnancy, a baby’s lip and palate are supposed to form but sometimes do not— resulting in a cleft lip.
What are the problems associated with a cleft lip?
If left untreated, cleft lips can cause dental problems and the inability to eat properly. However, until your baby has surgery to properly fix their cleft lip, there are special bottles that are designed in order to ensure that your baby is getting the right amount of food and nutrients they need in order to properly grow.
What is surgery like?
Depending on the overall health of your baby, cleft lip surgery can typically take place when the baby is around three months old. During the surgery, and after anesthesia has been administered to your little one, one of Associated Plastic Surgeons & Consultants surgeons will work to seal the gap that has formed between the mouth and nose in order to give your child the ability to eat, chew, and smile.
What is recovery like?
You can expect that your baby will spend the night in the hospital in order to be properly monitored after surgery. However, once discharged, you will be given specific feeding instructions for your baby and will be instructed to keep the area clean. Although a scar will be visible at first, it will slowly fade over time and shouldn’t be apparent in the future.
If your child has a cleft lip and you would like to learn more about the surgical options used to treat it, contact Associated Plastic Surgeons & Consultants today!

3 Myths Busted About Your Bust
In this digital age it can be hard to decipher between fact and fiction. With so much information readily at our fingertips, you can easily become misinformed and create an opinion without much standing. And when it comes to the world of plastic surgery, there are even more myths that you don’t want to fall victim of. Here are three myths associated with breast implants.
Implants Have to Be Large
Yes it’s true that the wide majority of women who decide to undergo breast enhancement surgery decide to opt for a larger implant, however, that doesn’t mean that you have to as well. In fact, a good and trusted plastic surgeon will not only listen to the breast size that you are hoping for but will ensure that your new breasts fit your frame and figure— so you don’t look like you’re about to top over.
Silicone Implants Aren’t Safe
Although this might have been true during the 80’s and 90’s, this statement is now a myth. After people were falling ill due to ruptured silicone implants, they were taken off of the plastic surgery market and then reintroduced as a safer model. Now, not only are silicone implants safe for patients but they also provide patients with a more natural looking breast appearance.
You Can’t Breastfeed With Implants
If you’ve been putting off getting breast implants until after you’re done having kids in fear that you might not be able to breastfeed, you can assure yourself that is a myth as well. In fact, getting breast implants should not have any effect on your milk ducts or your body’s ability to produce milk.
It’s easy to fall victim of Internet myths that really have no standing in real life. However, by understanding fact from fiction, you can help to make a more educated decision regarding your body and breast enhancement surgery. To learn more or to schedule an appointment, contact our office today!

Plump Up Your Pout Just In Time for Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is one of those holidays that you either love or hate— people with someone to share the day with enjoy it more than single individuals who feel like it’s just a reminder that they don’t have anyone special to share the day with. This year, treat yourself to the best Valentine’s Day yet and plump up your pout— whether you’re single or have someone to share the holiday with, your sexier lips will make you feel more confident and self-aware.
Are Lip Plumpers Permanent?
Lip plumpers, known as fillers in the cosmetic industry, are not permanent and depending on both the type of filler you get and how your body responds to the filler can last around 6-12 months. However, if you are looking for a lip treatment that is more permanent, consider getting something like silicone lip implants.
What type of filler should I use?
You and your doctor can sit down and decide ultimately what lip filler is good for you. However, fillers like Restylane are extremely popular among patients who want to see realistic looking results rather quickly.
Made from a natural substance that our bodies produce called hyaluronic acid, Restylane is not only safe to use for your lips but it will also give you more natural looking results.
What is the procedure like?
Unlike other cosmetic procedures that require patients to have some down time in order to recover, lip fillers like Restylane can be done quickly and with virtually no pain at all—- in fact, you can even get your lips done on your lunch break. During the procedure, your doctor will likely add a topical numbing gel to your lips in order to help alleviate any sort of pain or discomfort. Once the numbing gel has started to sink in, the doctor will then inject the Restylane into different parts of your lips using a needle and syringe.
Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to amp up your overall appearance and give yourself that sexy pout you have always desired. To learn more about lip fillers or to schedule an appointment, contact our office today!

Get Sexier Just in Time for Valentine’s Day
Valentines day is the perfect holiday to show the person you love just how much you really do love them. If you have a sexy surprise getaway planned for you and your significant other, make sure that you get your body in the best shape and condition as possible by following these steps.
- Sexy Pout
Nothing is quite as endearing as showing off a sexy pout on Valentine’s night. By choosing either Restylane or Juvederm, you can get fuller, plumper, and yes, even sexier lips in no time. However, it is advised that you get these lip injections at least a few days before Valentine’s day in order to get rid of any pain or swelling at the injection site. - Perkier Breasts
Unless you don’t plan on seeing your significant other for at least a few weeks before Valentines day, perkier breasts aren’t necessarily a procedure that you can hide until Valentine’s day. However, perkier breasts will not only make you look and feel sexier, but they will also make your significant other feel that much more attracted to you. In order to be fully ready to show off your new breasts on Valentines day, make sure that you schedule your appointment at least a few weeks before Valentine’s day— that way you aren’t in recovery mode during the holiday. - Tighter Looking Body
Another great way to feel and look sexier on Valentine’s day is by getting the tighter body that you’ve always wanted. Whether your abdomen is a bit looser due to childbirth or excess weight, liposuction is the perfect treatment solution to tone and tighten your middle section. However, just like with breast enhancement surgery it’s important to schedule your liposuction for at least a few weeks before Valentine’s day so that you can fully show off your body outside of recovery.
Make this Valentine’s day a little more special and treat yourself— and your significant other— to a new and sexier body. To learn more about these surgical procedures and more, contact our office today!

Take Care of Your Skin In Between Injections With These 3 Tips
Whether you prefer Botox to Restylane or vice versa, it’s important to take care of your skin in between receiving these fillers and injectables. Not only will taking care of your skin help to accentuate your results, but it will also help to ensure that your skin stays as healthy as possible for as long as possible. With the New Year in full swing, now is the best time to get started on a skin care regimen that will make you look almost as young as your Botox does. Read on to learn more.
- Exfoliate
Exfoliating your skin with a cream or gel exfoliator is the perfect way to rid your face of any dead skin that may be building up. And during the cold, dry winter months, dead, dry skin can cause your face to feel tired and damaged. However, by using a gentle exfoliating scrub on your face 1-3 times a week, you can help to get a smoother looking complexion. And, as an added bonus, the scrubbing motion on your skin can help to speed up your body’s natural production of collagen— a win win for your skin’s health. - Wash Off Your Makeup
We’ve all done it— even though none of us want to admit it— but sometimes it can seem like the last thing in the world you want to do: wash your makeup off before you go to bed. By leaving makeup on your skin over night, you can cause breakouts due to the added oil production of your skin. And although breakouts won’t interfere with your Botox or Restylane, they can lead to unwanted scarring and just an overall nuisance. - Moisturize
One of the best ways to prevent wrinkles from occurring is by moisturizing your skin both morning and night. Consider your skin to be the dessert— the longer it goes without moisture, the more cracks that begin to surface. In order to prevent your skin from drying, cracking, and breaking out in some unwanted wrinkles, make sure you are using a hydrating serum or cream for your face type— normal, dry, oily— both morning and night.
