Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

What Is Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)?

Eyelid Surgery Long Island | Blepharoplasty

Eyelid surgery, also called an eye lift or blepharoplasty, is one of the more common surgical procedures performed on Long Island. Blepharoplasty, is designed to improve the appearance of the eyelids by removing excess skin and fat, which results in a more refreshed look by reducing puffiness associated with lower eye “bags”. Eyelid surgery may also be performed to add an upper eyelid crease to Asian eyes, also known as an asian blepharoplasty.

Am I A Good Candidate For Eyelid Surgery?

If your expectations are realistic, you're a good candidate. Someone who has severe "dry eye" symptoms while usually a candidate, might not have the perfect result because the doctor must take your symptoms into account.

Your Eye Surgery Consultation

During your complimentary consultation with Dr. Duboys, he will carefully examine your eyes and discuss the alternative available. Dr. Duboys will also discuss whether or not both skin and fat need to be removed. The consultation is an important time for the patient and Dr. Duboys to discuss expectations in detail.

Eyelid Surgery Procedure

Eyelid surgery usually takes one to two hours to complete and may be performed under local anesthesia with sedation or with general anesthesia. The incisions are typically made in the natural creases of the eyelids resulting in small, well-concealed scars. Patients who only have excess fat on their lower eyelids may undergo a transconjunctival blepharoplasty in which the incisions are made on the inside of the lower eyelids, resulting in no visible scarring. The exact nature of the surgery will depend upon what needs to be done to accomplish your goals.

Where Is The Blepharoplasty Surgery Performed?

Dr. Duboys typically performs all cosmetic surgery procedures in his fully certified in-office surgical suite in Huntington, Long Island. This state-of-the-art operating room is fully approved by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities a convenience that is another great reason to trust Dr. Duboys and Associated Plastic Surgeons.

Blepharoplasty Recovery

The eyelid surgery recovery process occurs in stages. No bandages are applied after surgery, but some swelling and bruising are common. Typically the bruising is usually 90% gone after 1 week of surgery. The bruising and swelling can be alleviated by elevating the head and applying cold compresses during the first few days.

When Can I Resume Normal Activities?

Patients typically feel well enough to return to work and resume most other normal activities within five to seven days following their surgery. Patients are unable to drive until the sutures are out, which is approximately 5-7 days. No exercise for 1 month following the surgery. Having Blepharoplasty surgery can be a very rewarding experience, enhancing both your appearance and self- confidence.

How Long Will Eyelid Surgery Results Last?

Eyelid surgery results are permanent, and that excess skin and fat are removed. While your eyelids will continue to age, they will do this from a younger starting point.
