Facial expression is an important part of defining our personality. Without facial movements, we could not laugh, smile, frown, or show any number of emotions. Over time, however, these natural movements, with the help of gravity and aging create permanent lines and wrinkles. These may deepen into furrows and ridges which can age your face disproportionately to the way you feel. Wrinkles and lines are most common around the eyes and mouth, forehead, and between the eyebrows, making you look older than you feel! Everyone wants that youthful look, but not everyone requires or is willing to undergo surgery. At Associated Plastic Surgeons & Consultants, patients can receive injections and fillers to reverse those signs of aging!
What Are Injectables and Fillers?
It’s important to realize that many injectable fillers consist of substances that are found naturally in the body. Others contain a synthetic composition that behaves in an identical manner as those natural substances that stimulate natural collagen production. They are all FDA-approved and doctors consider them safe for most patients. Dr. Duboys injects fillers and injectables into the lined, wrinkled area of the patient’s skin. They immediately restore volume, soften and lift lines and grooves, and create a smoother, more attractive facial contour. Injectable fillers can also help to add definition and volume to the patient’s lips.
Am I a Candidate for Injectables and Fillers?
Many people desire a more youthful, rested appearance and hope to remove these signs of age. But most people prefer to do so through non-surgical means. For the most part, there are a number of cosmetic procedures that do not involve surgery and are highly effective in improving the appearance quickly and easily. The most common of these are Dermal Fillers and Injectables. Injectable Dermal Fillers also help to soften facial wrinkles and lines and can prevent natural face movements from further deepening these lines. With just one treatment of fillers and injectables, you will look refreshed and younger with minimal downtime.
Types of Fillers & Injectables
Juvéderm Injectable Gel
Juvéderm® Injectable Gel is made of hyaluronic acid and is easily injected. In comparison to other fillers, the smooth gel consistency of Juvéderm allows the results to last longer. Juvéderm gel contains lidocaine so that patients feel more comfortable when injected. Results are apparent immediately and can last for 6 to 9 months.
Restylane
Restylane® contains hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance. This filler is unique in that in addition to being used for wrinkles and nasolabial folds it is often used for lip enhancement. After Restylane injections, the lips are fuller and more defined. Patients can receive injections from Dr. Duboys in under a half hour with results that last for up to 6 months.
Radiesse
Radiesse® is an injectable synthesized from bone minerals and augments the skin’s natural collagen supply. In addition to facial lines and wrinkles, Radiesse can be used on jowls and the chin area. One primary benefit of Radiesse is that results can last up to a year. However, touch-up treatments can prolong the results.
Botox
For other wrinkles such as forehead furrows, annoying lines between the eyebrows and crows feet, patients may choose Botox® Cosmetic. Botox is a medication that selectively paralyzes the offending muscles causing these wrinkles. Having been used in millions of patients worldwide, Botox has a high success rate with minimal complications.
Dysport
Similar to Botox Cosmetic, Dysport is an injectable that blocks the ability for facial muscles to contract. However, unlike other injectables, Dysport takes about 5 to 7 days to reach its maximum effectiveness. Dysport is composed of human plasma and can be completed in just about 20 minutes.
Kybella
Kybella is an FDA approved injectable that treats submental fullness, commonly known as a double chin. During treatment, Dr. Duboys performs a series of injections in a grid pattern in order to evenly distribute the Kybella. Patients may experience tightness and swelling for 1-3 days but will begin to see results after. Some patients need more than one treatment to receive ideal results but can see Dr. Duboys for repeat treatments at 1-month intervals.
Sculptra
Sculptra is a filler made of poly-L-lactic acid. This filler works to increase collagen production and add fullness to areas. Patients can come to Associated Plastic Surgeons & Consultants to receive Sculptra during a 1-hour session. Results typically appear 2-3 weeks after injection and a majority of patients need another round at the 4-6 weeks mark. Results can last about 2 years.
