One of the surgical treatments that we offer here at our Associated Plastic Surgeons & Consultants office is sex reassignment surgery for both males to female and female to male. As a procedure that’s just as much about the emotional aspects as it is about the physical aspects, we have created a brief guide listing some basic things for every sex reassignment candidate to know. Let’s take a closer look.
Consultation Appointments
Here at Associated Plastic Surgeons & Consultants, our main goal with sex reassignment surgery is to make sure that you feel confident, calm and prepared for this surgery. And although most surgeries only require one or two consultations before surgery, we encourage our sex reassignment patients to come into our office for as many consultation appointments as you need.
Hormone Therapy
Here at our office, we don’t administer hormones, but patients who are undergoing this type of surgery will be encouraged to meet with an endocrinologist beforehand. Typically, hormone therapy is the first step in this process and will need to be done before sex reassignment surgery.
Preparation
Before surgery, we required patients to have undergone hormone therapy and lived as the opposite sex for a full year. Additionally, we encourage patients to be enrolled in a transgender program for emotional support.
