Whether you want to get a rhinoplasty for cosmetic issues or for conditions like a deviated septum, one of the most important things to know about this surgical procedure is what recovery will be like. Although we will send you home with a detailed list of what to do and what to avoid during recovery, here are three recovery tips that will go a long way.
- Sleep With Your Head Elevated
One of the easiest, yet most beneficial, recovery tips that we may recommend is that you sleep with your head elevated. By propping your head up, you can help get rid of swelling and any drainage from your nose.
- Use Medications As Recommended
Depending on your specific surgical procedure, we will give you oral medications, topical medications, or both to help reduce swelling and fight off any infection. Make sure that you use each medication as recommended— even if you think you don’t need to use them anymore.
- Don’t Poke and Prod
Let’s face it: nothing is quite as uncomfortable as having gauze, or a stent shoved up your nose— but both may be necessary during recovery. Although it may be irritating to have something up your nose while you heal, make sure that you don’t poke or prod— even with a cotton swab. The best thing you can do is just leave it alone.
Recovery is one of the most critical steps in any surgical process. By using the tips listed above, we hope that you’ll have a smooth, safe, and speedy rhinoplasty recovery.
