What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive skin care procedure that offers an alternative to surgery for skin rejuvenation. Microdermabrasion is done by gently buffing away the surface layer of the skin with crystals and mild suction. This gentle abrasive motion helps remove old and dead skin cells and other skin imperfections. As a result, your skin looks younger, smoother and healthier.

What can Microdermabrasion help treat?

Microdermabrasion can also be used to remove superficial skin imperfections, such as sun damage, fine lines, blemishes, as well as clogged pores.

What can I expect during treatment?

Microdermabrasion takes about 30 to 60 minutes to perform, and only affects the surface layer of your skin, called the epidermis. When the surface layer of skin is removed, it generates a mild injury. As a result, your body increases blood circulation to the treatment area, which helps renew lost skin cells to heal the "injury."

How many treatments will I need?

Unlike dermabrasion that causes bleeding and takes weeks to recover, the results of Microdermabrasion are cumulative and will require several treatments to achieve maximal effect.

What can I expect after treatment?

Microdermabrasion causes mild swelling and redness equivalent to a mild sun-burn, that usually lasts less than 8 hours. As your skin heals, new skin cells are generated to replace the ones lost resulting in a younger, smoother appearance.

What is recovery like after Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion does not affect the deeper layers of skin, and is a relatively painless procedure. Recovery from Microdermabrasion is fast, and the procedure usually causes only mild discomfort. You can return to your normal daily activities immediately as long as you avoid direct contact to sunlight.
