A First Timer’s Guide to Microdermabrasion
There’s a first time for everything, and if you haven’t tried microdermabrasion yet, then you need to give it a go. Microdermabrasion is one of our most popular treatments here at our office. By using tiny crystals to exfoliate your skin, microdermabrasion signals your skin’s natural response to heal itself which will help with a variety of skin imperfections including hyperpigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, or even scarring. Depending on what we are treating your skin for, we may recommend a series of treatments right after each other to help get the best results possible.
But what can you expect after each treatment? Let’s take a closer look and see.
Redness
Redness does vary from patient to patient. Some of our patients leave our office after microdermabrasion with just a small amount of pinkness in their skin, while others leave our office looking bright red. After about 24 hours, the redness should die down or be completely non-existent. Because of the redness, a lot of people like to take the rest of the day off of work, but it’s not required.
Tenderness
Your skin will feel a little tender and raw for about 24 hours after microdermabrasion. A lot of patients say that their skin feels sensitive to the touch— similar to how your skin feels when you have a sunburn. To help ease the discomfort, try applying thick face cream and taking an over-the-counter NSAID like Ibuprofen.
No Makeup
As your skin heals from microdermabrasion, we encourage our patients to let it breathe as much as possible and avoid applying makeup. If you do have somewhere to go and you want to conceal the redness, try just using a little bit of concealer and some mineral powder, but be conservative with it.
Microdermabrasion can be a great thing to add to any skincare routine. Ready to schedule your first treatment? Contact our Huntington office today and call us at (631) 423-1000.

How to Tell Which Neuromodulator is Right For You
With new neuromodulators being released every couple of years, it can be hard to determine which one is right for you and your cosmetic concerns. In fact, it can sometimes be a little overwhelming for some patients when there are so many options available. One of the questions that we get from our patients is, “What’s the difference between Botox and other neuromodulators like Dysport?” Let’s take a closer look and see.
Botox
Botox is the most popular neuromodulator out there and for a good reason. Botox is made by a company called Allergan who is notorious for delivering patients with an excellent product each and every time. The unique thing about Botox is that it was initially created for medical purposes, but now it’s famous for a bunch of reasons (primarily cosmetic). And, the great thing about Botox is that, so you know that it is safe.
Dysport
Dysport is another neuromodulator that we offer at our office. Although both of these are made out of a similar neurotoxin, they are different. Specifically, about two to three units Dysport equals one units of Botox. So, if you have had 40 units of Botox in the past, you will need about 80 units of Dysport in order to get similar results. One of the biggest things that patients like Dysport it is that it starts to kick in a lot faster (about two days faster) than Botox which is always a plus.
If this is your first time getting a neuromodulator injection, then it’s good to know a few of the fundamental distinctions between these two. During your initial consultation with us at our office, we will discuss the pros and cons of each of these injections as well as which one we think will give you the best results. Are you ready to hop on the neuromodulator bandwagon? Contact our Huntington office today at (631) 423-1000.

Spring Training: 3 Things to Look for In a Workout Bra
While you may not be spring training quite as hard as The Yankees are, let’s just say that May is the perfect time to hit the gym extra hard because bikini and shorts season is almost here. If you just got new breasts from our office, however, you may not know the first thing about what to look for in a sports bra.
Support
The biggest thing that you want to look for is a bra that has enough support in it; especially if you are running or doing something that is really high intensity. When you are trying on bras, look for ones that are meant for “high impact’ because these usually have more spandex in them which will help to keep your breasts in place. Then, when you actually try it on, remember that you want it to compress your breasts but you don’t want it to feel so tight that you feel restricted.
Padding
It used to be that you had to get a workout bra with a lot of padding, but now that you have bigger breasts, you probably don’t need quite as much padding. In fact, the only reason why you may want padding is if you’re worried about being cold in public or something; otherwise, you can leave the padding at the door and show off your new breasts.
Strap Support
Your larger breasts need a little bit more support from all angles. For instance, rather than just getting a bra that has a lot of support in the front, look for one that also has a lot of support in the back due to the straps. For instance, when you choose a thick strapped racerback bra, you know that it’s going to give you more support than one that is just spaghetti strapped.
Make sure that you take care of your new breasts when you get back into working out this spring. If you want to learn more tips and tricks, contact us at our Huntington office today and callus at (631) 423-1000.

Considering Gender Affirmation Surgery? How a Counselor Can Help
Gender affirmation surgery is a surgery that Dr. Duboys and the rest of or staff take very seriously. As such, Dr. Duboys follows the standards of care procedures that are adopted by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). These guidelines follow a series of steps to see if Dr. Duboys will consider surgery. Typically, the first step involves having patients meet with a mental help professional. As a step that many patients dread because of many misconceptions out there, Dr. Duboys thought it would be nice to lay out some of the basics that you can expect from your meeting with your mental health professional. Let’s take a closer look.
It’s a Helpful Tool
One of the things that we tell patients who are nervous about going into therapy before gender affirmation surgery is that they should look at it as a helpful tool. Think of it this way, we want you to go into surgery having every tool that you need in order to head into recovery feeling better than ever, both physically and mentally. During therapy, you will be able to better determine whether or not surgery will give you the outcome that you are going for. Additionally, if you have any issues that you are working through that may pertain to surgery, this will be held prul time to do that.
It’s Not Designed to Dissuade You
As long as you go to the right therapist, you should know that this form of therapy is not designed to dissuade you from going through with surgery. In fact, it’s just there to help you through the process. Going through gender affirmation surgery is a huge deal on your mentally, physically, and emotionally. Even though Dr. Duboys can help you out physically, it’s important that you get mental and emotional support as well; that way you can get through this feeling whole and complete.

Facials

Depending on the results that you are going for, our skin care experts will work to determine the best type of facial for you. The great thing about facials is that they combine exfoliating, extracting, hydrating, purifying, and rejuvenating features all in one treatment. Plus, when they are done in conjunction with an IPL or a chemical peel, you can get even better results.
IPL Photofacial
One of our most popular spa treatments here at our office is our IPL photofacial. This facial uses tiny beams of intense pulse light to target skin concerns like texture, sunspots, or even fine lines and wrinkles. Even though the IPL treatment itself isn’t exactly relaxing, when it’s done in conjunction with other facials and treatments it can be.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are a great way to encourage the growth of newer, healthier skin. By targeting the top layer of the skin with a chemical exfoliation method, chemical peels work to give patients smoother, healthier, skin after just a few treatments. Plus, some of our patients find chemical peels to be a little bit relaxing because they like the tingling sensation that they give.

Have Smoke Lines Around Your Mouth? How We Can Help
Whether you actually smoke or if you just have smoke lines around your mouth, you may be wondering how on earth you can get rid of those. Smoke lines are the lines that people get when they purse their lips over and over again which creates vertical lines on your upper lip. So, what can you do to get rid of those lines?
The Mesofacial
The mesofacial is a great way to treat a variety of different things including smokers lines. To start out, one of our estheticians will thoroughly cleanse the skin and then gently exfoliate it by either using a chemical peel or microdermabrasion. Then, we will apply a non-cross linked hyaluronic acid to help encourage the growth of collagen in the lips. After the hyaluronic acid has been applied, we will use a special instrument to make tiny perforations in the skin; this helps with collagen induction and it helps your skin more easily absorb treatments as well.
Fillers
Another thing that we can do is add fillers to your lips. Hyaluronic based fillers like Juvederm and Restylane can do a variety of things including adding volume to your skin and your lips. By making strategic injections in your upper and lower lips, we can help smooth them out and get rid of the smokers line in the process. Plus, if you have been wanting more volume in your lips as well, fillers can help with that too.
If you want to learn more about how we can help you smooth out your lips, schedule a consultation with us and call our Huntington office at (631) 423-1000.

The Basics of EndyMed
Having smoother, healthier, more youthful looking skin doesn’t have to be something that dreams are made of. Here at Associated Plastic Surgeons, we pride ourselves on giving patients the best skin of their lives with a variety of different treatments. One of the treatments that we specialize in is called EndyMed.
What’s EndyMed?
EndyMed uses FDA-cleared technology that is proven to improve tone and texture in the skin. As a microneedling treatment, it helps to also reduce the appearance of skin concerns like acne, scars, and wrinkles.
What Are the Benefits of EndyMed?
One of the reasons why we love the EndyMed Intensif RF Microneedle System is because it not only treats a variety of skincare concerns but it also:
- Is Minimally Invasive
- Is Only Slightly uncomfortable
- Has no side effects
- Requires no downtime
- Lasts close to a year
How Does EndyMed Work?
This procedure uses a combination of microneedling and radio-frequency energy. To start out, we will make small punctures in your skin with microneedling. After the skin has been punctured, we will then use RF energy to help penetrate deep into the dermis. The combination of these two procedures helps to encourage the skin’s natural production of collagen and elastin which will leave you with healthier, young looking skin in the process.
Does EndyMed sound like something that your skin could benefit from? If so, then contact us at our Huntington office today and call us at (631) 423-1000.

Why Spring Makes the Best Time to Get Liposuction
Having a slimmer, more toned body isn’t something that just happens overnight for most people. In fact, it usually takes months and months of hard work. With summer just a few short months away, you may already be sticking to a strict diet and exercise routine to get your bod bikini ready. If, however, it seems like you still have some stubborn fat that won’t come off with diet and exercise, then liposuction or liposculpture may be able to help you make it to the weight loss finish line.
What’s Liposuction?
Liposuction is the most traditional type of weight loss surgery and is great because it can be used on large areas of the body like the abdomen, buttocks, or upper thighs. During this surgery, one of our surgeons will start by making a small incision in the area, then scraping off excess fat, and suctioning it out with a device called a cannula. After the fat has been removed, we will then stitch you up and send you off to recovery.
What’s Liposculpture?
The biggest difference between liposuction and liposculpture is that liposculpture works to target smaller areas of the body like the neck, abdomen, or knees. Because we treat smaller parts of the body, we are able to make smaller incisions and use an even smaller cannula than with liposuction which makes recovery a little bit easier.
Each of these options can help give patients, like you, real results and get that much closer to having the perfect bikini body. If you want to learn a little bit more about each of these weight loss procedures, contact our Huntington office and call us at (631) 423-1000.

Everything You Need to Know About Liposculpture
Does it feel like you’re constantly working out and eating right, but you still have some stubborn, excess fat that won’t budge on it’s own? As a common concern that many of our patients at Associated Plastic Surgeons have regarding weight loss, not being able to lose excess fat with diet and exercise alone can be really frustrating. Luckily, we offer patients a body contouring procedure called liposculpture to help you get the body that you work so hard for everyday.
What Is Liposculpture?
You’ve undoubtedly heard of liposuction before but you probably haven’t heard of liposculpture. As a form of liposuction, liposculpture works to recountour the body by removing excess fat. Rather than targeting larger areas of the body like the buttocks and thighs, liposculpture is typically done on smaller areas of the body such as the abdomen, neck, or knees.
How Is It Performed?
During this surgical procedure, Dr. Duboys will use either local or general anesthesia to help make you feel as comfortable and calm as possible. After the anesthesia has been administered, he will make a small incision in the skin and insert a micro-cannula to remove the abnormal fat cells.
Unlike other forms of liposuction, during liposculpture, Dr. Duboys will use a tumescent anesthetic fluid to help liquify the fat so that it can go through such a small cannula; leaving you with minimal scarring. Once the fat has been liquified and removed, he will the sculpt the area and then stitch you up!
What Is Recovery Like?
One of the most important parts of a procedure like liposculpture is recovery. While you’re at home recovering, you will wear a compression garment which will help ease swelling and pain; make sure that you are consistent about wearing it because it will help speed up your recovery.
On average, try to arrange to take an entire week off of work. However, once you are back at work, we still encourage patients to avoid any sort of strenuous workouts or activities until about 4-6 weeks after surgery.
Are you ready to learn more about liposculpture and whether or not it’s right for you? Contact us at our Huntington office today at (631) 423-1000.

3 Tips to Make Your Brow Lift Recovery Go Smoother
You don’t have to age in a way that makes you feel sad everytime that you look in the mirror. One of the places that people tend to show the earliest signs of aging is on the forehead. If you feel like your Botox is only doing so much, we may recommend a surgical procedure called a brow lift. During your brow lift, one of our surgeons will surgically lift and tighten the skin on the forehead to help restore a more youthful look. As one of the most important parts of any procedure, it’s important that you know what you can expect from recovery and how you can speed it up. Let’s take a closer look at three ways that you can make your brow lift recovery go smoother. Are you ready to learn more? If so, read on.
Avoid Scratching
The worst part about healing from any sort of surgery is the itchiness. As a normal part of the healing process, many patients experience some itchiness that may even persist for several months. Even though you may want to grab a bottle brush and scratch your incisions to find some sort of relief, it’s best if you don’t scratch them at all.
Clean Your Incisions
Before you leave our office, we will give you detailed instructions on how you should clean your incisions to avoid any infections. When cleaning your incisions, make sure that you don’t apply too much pressure because you don’t want to irritate the area. If you notice a lot of puss, inflammation, or redness around your incisions, contact our office to make sure that you don’t have an infection.
Take NSAIDs
One of the most common side effects of a brow lift or forehead lift is swelling. In fact, a lot of patients experience swelling that goes all the way up their cheeks, which is normal, but it should subside within a couple of days. To help ease swelling and pain, take some non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen or Motrin.
Before we send you home from surgery, we will give you detailed instructions on what to do once you get home. If you want to learn more about brow lift surgery or brow lift recovery, contact us at our Huntington office and call (631) 423-1000.
